4 Effective Yoga Poses For Treating Autism

Do you know anyone out in your society suffering from autism? Autistic children often struggle to handle the changes in immediate environment and bodies. Autism is a part of developmental disorders that are usually noticed in the children who are under 3 years. As they grow, they find it difficult, to interact and communicate socially. Moreover, the children suffering from autism did not grab tone of voice, facial expressions and may not even answer to their names.

But autism children need to feel safe and connected. To make them part of the society, yoga is a medical approach to help the children to cope up with the autism symptoms.

Tree Pose improves balance, strengthens calves, thighs and ankles. To begin with the pose, stand straight on the flat surface. Raise your arms up alongside your body on both the sides. Next, bend your left knee and place the left foot on your right thigh. Look up towards the sky. Be in the position for 5-10 seconds and release. Repeat the pose on the other side.

This pose relieves the stress and calms the mind. It also keeps the spine flexible and strengthens the knees. To begin with, the pose stand straight on the flat surface, keeping your legs placed together. Allow your arms to rest on the floor, you can also bend your knee if you don’t feel comfortable. Breathe deeply and let the arms sink further. Be in the pose for a while and raise back.

The Lion’s breathe is basically performed to relieve tension. With the lion’s roar, the autism child is made to release unwanted emotions. To start with the pose, slowly kneel down on the flat surface crossing the ankles behind you. Place both your hands on the knees pressing the palms against the thighs. Inhale, open the mouth wide and try to bring your tongue down to touch your chin. Make a ‘ha’ sound like a lion roar, and open the eyes as wide as possible.

Cow pose helps the child understand the body connect, breathing activities continuing warming the body. To start with the pose, be on the center of the yoga mat on your hand and knees. Position your hands in a way that it comes beneath your shoulders and knees should lie parallel with your hips.

With the support of fingers firmly press into the mat. Inhale and when you exhale take your belly towards the mat, creating a curve in the spine. Look up towards the sky, be there in the pose for a while.
