Cobra Pose | Bhujangasana | How to Perform and its Benefits

Cobra Pose or Bhujangasana is the best yoga posture in preparing the body for deeper backbends. When practiced regularly, it helps in reducing stress and fatigue, tones the shoulders and helps in relieving the pain of sciatica. Cobra Pose is a part of the yoga postures in Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation. If you are the beginner and want to perform Cobra Pose, here are the steps to do this posture.

Steps to Do Cobra Pose

1. To begin with the pose, lie down on your stomach with toes flat on the surface and forehead resting on the yoga mat.

2. Next, keep your feet close together with heels lightly touching each other.

3. Place your palms facing downwards under the shoulders while keeping your elbows parallel and near to the torso.

4. Take a deep breath, and lift your head, abdomen, and chest off the floor.

5. Keep your torso back with the support of your hands.

6. Make sure that when you do perform Cobra Pose your feet are close together.

Benefits of Performing Cobra Pose

The Cobra Pose tones the abdomen strengthens the back and shoulders.

When practiced regularly expands the chest and relieves the stress and fatigue.

It is beneficial pose for people having respiratory disorders like asthma.

Bhujangasana opens up the neck and shoulders, and also improves blood circulation.

It improves the menstrual irregularities and elevates mood.

It stimulates the organs like kidneys and abdomen and also soothes sciatica.

Note – Avoid doing Cobra Pose if you have fractured ribs or recently underwent abdominal surgeries. Always perform the yoga postures under the guidance of yoga experts.
