Purvottanasana, also known as upward plank pose or reverse plank pose, is an eastward facing stretch performed at beginner’s stage. The word ‘purvottanasana’ is a portmanteau of purva (meaning ‘east’), ut (meaning ‘intense’), tan (meaning ‘stretch’) and asana (meaning ‘seat’ or ‘position’).
